4/ Shikoku & Kansai Trip 2007 Part 4

This blog will cover my trip from Matsuyama to Okayama

This is the Iyo Railway Type 610. Location: Matsuyama-shi Station

I took the Iyo Railway Type 700 (Former Keio Electric Railway Type 5000) to Komachi Station.

Another car has been added for the morning rush hour (2 cars during the day, 3 cars during the rush hour). This type of coupling didn't happen when this train used to run on the Keio-line.

Arrived at Komachi Station. You can see the type 800 series (former Keio electric railway type 2010) resting at the car depot. This train retired in 2010.

Iyo Railway type 700 series and type 300 series. The type 300 series retired about 20 years ago. Maybe they're saving this car for historical purposes?

The Iyo Railway Type 800. After this train retired in 2010, it returned back to the Kanto region. It currently runs in Chiba prefecture on the Choshi Electric Railway from Choshi station to the Inubou area, Sotokawa station. Some of these trains were painted back to the Keio Electric Railway's original color, light green.

I head back to Matsuyama Station and plan to take the Ltd. Express Shiokaze No. 14. The train type is JR Shikoku Electric Car Type 6000. The Shiokaze Ltd. Express is also used by a diesel car, because it runs through a section where there is no overhead electric wires (between Iyoshi Station and Uwajima).

But before that, I wanted to take a picture of this train: Uwakai No. 6. This train just arrived from Uwajima. Train type: JR Shikoku Diesel Car type 2000.

Uwakai will pass the baton to Shiokaze at Matsuyama Station.

Yes, the coupling of two trains. As a railfan (or a train geek or whatever you want to call it), it sight is very fascinating. The left train is actually Ishizuchi No. 14 bound for Takamatsu and the right is Shiokaze No. 14 bound for Okayama. These trains will decouple at Utazu station.

The beautiful Seto Inland Sea.

Arrived at Utazu station and the train has already decoupled. The Shiokaze No. 14 will cross the Great Seto Bridge and will head to Honshu Island for Okayama.

The last 3 cars as the Ishizuchi No. 14....

...will remain on the Shikoku Island and will head to Takamatsu.

At Utazu station, I took the Nanpu No. 9 to Kotohira

Arrived at Kotohira

Mt. Kompira (symbol of Kotohira City)

Kotohira Electric Railway (Kotoden) Kotohira Station

This is the Kotoden Series 1200 (former Keikyu Electric Railway 700)

Here we have the Kotohira Station Sign with Mt. Kompira in the background

I got off at Kawaramachi Station. This is the terminal of the three Kotoden rail lines. (Kotohira Line, Nagao Line, and the Shido Line) As a station run by a small private railway, this is actually really nice.

I wanted to check out the Shido Line platform, which is separated from the other two Kotoden lines. Train shown is Kotoden type 600 (Former Nagoya Municipal Subway type 250)

Even the Shido Line has extra cars added for rush hour purposes. If you look carefully in the interior of the right car, it does not have a door that allows passengers to pass through to another car. (If my explanation doesn't make sense, look at the coupling for the Iyo railway Type 700. You can see the difference.)

After Kawaramachi, I took the train to Takamatsu-Chikkou Station. (This station is 200m away from the JR Takamatsu Station)

Now I'm at the JR Station. Train shown is JR Shikoku Type 121. (Looks similar to the JR East Type 207-9000 ---- unfortunately that train retired in 2009 and was demolished within the year :'( )

This Ishizuchi Train will return to Matsuyama soon.

The JR Shikoku Local Trains (Left: Diesel Car Type 1000; Right: Electric Train Type 121)

I took the Marine Liner to Okayama. I spoiled myself by riding the Panorama Green Car (First Class seats with a panorama view). What can I say, I had to ride it.

Departing Takamatsu Station

We will soon be on the Great Seto Bridge.

Arrived at Okayama

The Shiokaze will be returning back to Shikoku Island via the Great Seto Bridge.

Last picture of the day: The Marine Line coach. It looks very similar to the JR West type 223.

Next post: Trip from Okayama to Hiroshima.
